4 Year PhD Studentships

Two PhD studentships will be available each year for three years. A call for applications will be advertised each year.

PhD students will engage in a 4-year course in which the first year allows rotation through three mini-projects, followed by selection of a single major project to be undertaken over the next three years, culminating in the PhD thesis. The initial year gives experience in a variety of different techniques and laboratories, and facilitates intelligent choice of the major project.

Research training will be supplemented by a taught element covering a wide range of topics relevant to the genesis, biology, diagnosis, pathology and treatment of cancer.

There are several host laboratories for candidates to choose from, in London or Cambridge, and students will not be constrained to one location in their first year, with allowances available for travel between the two Institutes.

Requirements:
Students with, or expecting to attain at least an upper second class honours degree are invited to apply. A starting stipend of approximately £18,000 per annum and research costs are provided. Tuition fees will be paid at the home/EU rate. Applicants will need to show a commitment to translational research consistent with the aims of the Molecular Pathology Training Programme.
